According to Hinduism, life on earth is not a one-time discrete event. It's just one episode in the play. There would be multiple appearances (births) before the soul finally bids farewell to the cycle. Birth is not limited to just being born as a human, it includes births as animals, plants, even as priests who govern the parts of nature! After all, all these things have a life. The appearance of the soul in any of these forms is called reincarnation. After so many births when the soul is freed from reincarnation the most, it is in the state of mukti or liberation. This is the final state:
